Reflecting on the Easter Duty: A Joyful Act of Reconciliation
Do you remember the "Easter Duty?" For mature disciples, it meant Confession and Communion at least once a year. But far from being a burdensome obligation, it was a joyful duty, reminding us of God's boundless love and desire for our salvation.
During Lent, we reflect on God's profound love, His earnest desire for our repentance, and the sacrificial labor of His Son to demonstrate His commitment to our redemption (2 Peter 3:9).
As we repent of our sins, confess them, and resolve to sin no more, we experience the profound reconciliation with God. But how do we know when we've truly accepted this reconciliation?
Firstly, we let go of regret, which is merely self-centered worry. We entrust our mistakes to God's loving embrace. Then, we remain mindful of God's infinite goodness and His worthiness of our love. It's not our own flawed goodness that consoles us but the boundless love of God, who transforms our mourning into joy and our sorrows into wholeness (Esther C:25).
With our "Easter Duty" fulfilled and our hearts made whole again, we continue forward on the path—His Way.
