Embracing Our Role as Co-Creators with God

Embracing Our Role as Co-Creators with God

In his homilies, Pope Francis has uttered some profound truths, among them the idea that disciples have the capacity to be "co-creators" with our Creator and Lord, God Himself.

The notion of being co-creators may stretch the conventional understanding of creation. After all, God creates ex nihilo—out of nothing—and does so with boundless love, fashioning order and beauty from chaos. In contrast, we can only work with what God has endowed us within our time, space, and circumstances—our unique gifts, talents, opportunities, and companions.

Nevertheless, God continually works within us, shaping us in the image of our loving Redeemer. Thus, as we engage in the world, we are, in essence, collaborating with God.

While we cannot create something out of nothing, we can emulate our Creator by infusing our actions with love. By choosing to do the next good thing out of love and with love, we contribute to filling our corner of the world with love. In this way, we become true "co-creators" with our God.
